(This is panel 5 of a larger painting in collaboration with my friends.)

When we were planning this painting, we decided that it will be 4 seasons one per panel. North America happened to be the "winter" panel.  I wanted to also paint it as night. Because out of the darkest night is the brightest sunrise.

This passage came to mind
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.
Habakkuk 3:17‭-‬19 NLT

That in a time of winter, though it seems nothing is producing, yet the Lord is our strength and He will make us walk on high hills once again.

I wanted to depict revival fire sweeping through the continent, but the flame is not red, but rather blue, as blue flames are fires that burn pure. And while I was painting them, I heard "refiner's fire". I subsequently realised I had painted the flames on the capitals,  financial and trade centres of the region. May we be purified by the refiner's fire and come forth as pure silver and pure gold.
